B. Crimes in the Colony.

Case I. where a Chinaman commits a crime in the Colony and

escapes to China.

Case II

I do not think Chinese Law is complicated by questions. of venue and so the probable result would be that the Chinese would try the criminal in China.

where a Chinamen born in the New Territories commits a crime in the Colony and escapes to China.

The probable result would be that if the British Authorities claimed the man as a British subject the Chinese would do nothing but if no such claim were made they would deal with him as in Case I. This I believe happened in the Taipo Road murder case. Case III where a Chinaman born in Hongkong commits a crime in

the Colony and escapes to China. If we claimed the man as a British subject he would be handed over to the British Consul who would return him to the Colony for trial. (Piggott on Extradition p. 195). where an Englishman commits a crime in the Colony and escapes to China he would be handed over to the British Consul who would return him to the Colony for trial. (Piggott on Extradition p. 195). where a German commits a crime in the Colony and escapes to China he would be handed over by the Chinese to the German Consul but what would happen then would depend on German Law as to which I cannot advise. (See Piggott on Extradition p. 195).
